Member Delegation in Verona
We’re in northern Italy this week with an amazing group of 25 member wine buyers and industry professionals.
Executive Director Ilaria Baldan and Director of Business Development Alex Martyniak have been accompanying the members as they attend the massive Vinitaly Wine Expo in Verona, on the hunt for new and exciting wines to bring home to Canadian consumers.
The Vinitaly show, which is in its 56th year, is the world’s leading wine and spirit expo with over 4000 producers stretching across 44 acres of exhibition space. This year, the colossal event attracted almost 100,000 visitors from 143 different countries. In addition to the infinite wine tastings, the expo featured seminars, lessons and round table discussions on everything grape related.
The 4-day show wrapped up on Wednesday with some of the group heading back home to their businesses in Canada.
With the remaining members, we’re heading to Umbria, to get an up-close look at production at some unique wineries in that region.
Some Sad News…
It’s with great sadness that we pass along news of the loss of a much-respected leader in the Italian-Canadian community and devoted champion of Italian culture. Last week, Corrado Paina, longtime Executive Director of the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario passed away in hospital.
In addition to being a respected businessman and community leader, Corrado was also an accomplished writer and artist.
He received the “Menzione civica – Ambrogino d’oro” award from the City of Milan for his work twinning the cities of Toronto and Milan. In 2016 he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy.
The ICCCW Board of Directors and our Team extend our deepest condolences to Corrado’s family and our friends at the ICCO.
